Well around here we have 3 main grades of scrap. Number 2 is iron 18"x3' that's called prepared. Then you have unprepared, that's anything over three feet. Then you have light tin and car bodies. So usually there is a 30 to 40 dollar per ton price spread between prepared and unprepared. Because that's how much it costs the yard to cut it down. Then car bodies are usually 20 dollars a ton lower than unprepared. The cars and tin have too be baled and shipped by truck to a shredder and it costs the yard more to ship by truck instead of rail. Do you guys that live closer to a shredder get paid the same for everything ?
