Have been taking apart a lot of the rads iv stripped, and noticed that tranny/oil cooler lines go into the rad as well, and inside they connect to what looks like a brass tube, anyone know if it is actually brass? Some are a goldish colour, and others look like aluminum, but are way too heavy to be aluminum. Just wondering if they are even worth taking out.
If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...

Yes they are brass. Also some old radiators are entirely brass.

Even the lighter coloured stuff? This is gonna be a nice run to the scrap yard, I have about 20 of em!

Yes, they're brass. To satisfy yourself, scrape one with a file or grinder. Brass is yellow.Originally Posted by jord0690

Not all of them unless I made a mistake recently lol. I had a couple from a few rads and they were stainless. One from a dodge truck, one from a sunfire, and a Nissan maxima. Al was stainless. Non magnetic. And hit with the grinder. One was definitely aluminum. Melted under the grinder. The other 2 were stainless. Sparked with the grinder.

He's talking about the tube inside and on one side of some radiators. Never seen one being stainless. Now I'm curious. I've still get several from a couple years ago. I'm going to check them out.

I'm wondering too, gonna check it out next time I'm at the shop. The ones I'm curious about don't look like brass at all, they are almost a silver colour. I'm eager to read what you find.

Well, I went and checked what I've got. They were all inside plastic sides that I'd taken from radiators. Some were round and yellow(ish). I checked several and these showed no magnatism, so I'm assuming they are brass. Others were flat and several - like those old, hot water registers. They were more silvery and varied from weak to very strong magnatism so I guessing stainless steel. I'd completely forgot about them as they were in a different pile. So, I'd say everybody was right. The TUBES were brass but they're not all tubes.

Yeah, make sure you check them all with a magnet- some are steel, aluminum, brass, and even stainless

I love the brass pipe in rads, nice money. I've also heard that they can be copper sometimes too. Has anyone ever gotten a copper one? Here's the one I got today.
My 2.5 lb sledge for size.

This is the tube I was assuming he was talking about, or the tube in which the other brass tubes hook to. Those are nice been a while since I have had a radiator, need to ride around on my longboard in the neighborhoods more on the weekends.I love the brass pipe in rads, nice money. I have seen those in the plastic end caps on Jap car radiators.

Scrappers secrete the 2 sides without the tanks are steal they will rip u off with thatstill on. If u smack it off ur looking at 208 per pound.

I've had quite a few of the brass ones and the majority of them are made with,i cant remember right now but either 2 or 3 walls one of which is the shiniest copper ive ever seen. Maybe thats what you heard about Gravitar. Either way its worth a check.
