    Rollback or Truck & trailer? hauling etc

    hey guys hows it going? questions from a noobie here

    been seeing some wreckers like a f350 with a rollback deck plus winch?, im very interested in these as i want to start hauling scrap cars if at all possible, im in british columbia any info would be great as im just starting out, i know i need something to haul these cars just not to sure whats the best start, as i dont wanna get a crappy truck or a truck that cost to much to maintain etc etc... i wanna get a truck to make some cash with?? any ideas? , only thing that seems legit is a rollback with winch as a crane truck i guess i would need a cdl?...pms welcome guys

    also a cdl? whats up with that? sorry guys super new just thought id ask about scraping and scraping cars etc

    diesel gas?
    older or newer?
    rollback or trailer and truck.... loop holes and things like that? storys how u started things like that pms are fine ill be on this site quite a bit...

    that truck looks great, whats the big thing up front for?

    thats a rollback right? looks slick but a lil bit heavy duty what would gas be like on that any ideas? well not that heavy duty those 2 cars seem to be fine lol

    so hes just picking them up with the crane huh? he couldnt do that to a truck though right..

    I'd suggest a 3/4 ton and a trailer with a winch. More flexibility of use.

    That was the cheapest option for Gus (I think) as he had to drive a long distance to his yard, and the truck was a diesel. If your driving a further distance then you need to haul 2 or 3 cars at a time to make it pay off.

    Go one ton for sure. The added load capacity is well worth it.

    Be careful when buying a one ton. In some states and probably provinces, they require special registration and/or inspection. For example, in Maine a 3/4 ton MUST be registered as a commercial vehicle but can be inspected as a personal vehicle. Saves a lot money every year. A one ton MUST be registered AND inspected as a commercial vehicle.

    I wouldn't mess around with a trailer if your serious about hauling cars. For one most trailers are set up with an electric winch that doesn't have the power needed to move junk cars. Trust me electric winches are nothing but a PITA. Usually the tires are flat, the car has been wrecked or they have been sitting in the mud and the wheels won't roll very good. Some cars won't even have tires at all or the people selling the cars will want to keep their tires. Good luck trying to get one of those cars on a trailer.

    A roll back is the only way to go as far as picking up cars. With the tilt bed you can remove the tires and still drag the cars on if someone wants to keep their tires. If the wheels don't turn the hydraulic winch has the power to pull the car. Just make sure you buy a rollback with a steel deck.

    awesome ya i just thought trailer was a good money saver right but id rather have a rollback seems safer

    If I'm not mistaken, insurance will be a lot more for a rollback or any tow truck. I run a truck/trailer. Works great.

    Are you serious ? My 9000# harbor freight winch has yet to find a vehicle it can't move, flat tires, no tires and even winched a car on the trailer that was flipped over on its top. Yes a roll back is sweet for sure but what else can it do ? Higher insurance, crappy fuel mileage, and it takes 2 miles to turn around. I'm not trying to bash a rollback but a good tilt bed car trailer and a 12,000 # winch isn't a bad way to start out either.

    roll back or trailer

    IMO a tilt bed trailer with a big winch hooked to a 3/4 ton pu would work tha best considering all options.My perience in tha 40 years of dealing in the car business a trailer and truck is tha best all around unless you are going big time.
