Just wondering if some of you experienced guys could possibly make me a list of everything I need to take off/out a car before scrapping it so I can maximize my profit..i know the basics like wiring harnesses, radiator, cat, battery, heating core and what not. I'm knew to this and just wanna get every $$$ out of each vehicle I can, thanks in advance!!!

You listed about everything that I remove before scrapping a vehicle, other than I will also remove any desirable parts for resale, if there is a market for them. The yard that I sell to also requires the gas tank be removed, so depending how fresh it is, I usually have extra gas for lawn mowers and bonfires.

Using perfectly good gas for Bon fires ? Not in my operation, I'll run that stuff in my pickup! If I was to save anything it would be drivers side window regulator, and both inside and outside door handles if not broken already, but consider this too, I've held on to parts for 5 years before they sold before. So save enough to fill up any "spare" space you might have but more than that

Like I mentioned...depending how fresh it is. If gas has been in a tank for possibly a few years, it's going on a bonfire. Where as I scrapped a car a couple months ago where the owner had just filled the tank the night before, not knowing his motor was getting ready to blow up the next morning. I snag cat, tires/rims, radiator if it's copper, and battery.

looks on e8ay and see what parts are selling off that car then cherry pick the car, headlights, taillights, mirrors, instrument cluster, climate control panel, ecu, cylinder heads, ac system parts always sell quickly for a fair price

I sell a lot of mirrors and tail lights, after market pickup parts like grill guards, headache racks, receiver hitches, and nerf bars are also usually a quick sell if the pickup is new enough

I have the means to sit on them for awhile and sell "as needed" parts. I keep around 100 on hand. Easy to access aluminum or die cast trim, easy access elec motors, easy access cast alum under the hood, and surprised nobody has mentioned rebuildable cores for the core buyer...automatic transmissions, 4x4 transfer cases, brake calipers, masters & boosters, PS pumps, AC pumps, distributors, carburetors, ECM's, starters, alternators, steering gears, steering racks. Probably a couple others I'm not thinking of. All of those items are worth more as cores than as scrap.

Some folks will take out the:
Starter
A/C Pump
Rotors
Radiator
I have found that most of these items are either: Too Time Consuming for the time vs. profit yield OR they create more mess to clean up than the hassle of the profit.. i.e. You pull a radiator and you get a nice puddle of anti-freeze mess everywhere- for about $2.50.. So I leave them.

Well you need to cut a hole in or remove the tank, so the fuel pump is always good to sell. So other items that sell well and can be quickly removed include mirrors, headlights, taillights, glove box, cup holder, radio, climate control panel. While your removing wiring you can get the ecu from the engine compartment. Also make sure to pull the ac compressor and ac bracket/tensioner, used ac lines sell very well also. The radiator is always worth pulling and scrapping, they pay about $1.30 per pound for them. If your worried about the antifreeze mess just use a water hose and do it outside.

jghilino: Where do you core your ECM or ECU's? None of the core buyers in my area seem to deal with them.. Do e-waste buyers take these?

i sell all the parts on ebay and craigslist, i have a couple local bodyshops and parts stores i deal with also, i sell parts to them and buy cores from them
im checking out that core buyer you posted, i have alot of parts i cant move that i would go that route on

If you open an account with them (FREE)
You can check a vehicle by VIN or make/model/yr
Some of the core payments are ridiculous >> LOW like One Dollar for some water pumps
Then some of the Jeep ECM's bring $75 to $100 on a regular basis

well it seems like i have piles of torque converters and steering racks and trannys and transfer cases thet dont sell, if they pay more than scrap and cover the shipping cost ill send to them all day long, im getting 35 cents for dirty aluminum
