another empty, the weld was the key but you never know when someone replaced it with a used one(which they are not suppose to do) i had a ford like that yesterday that ive done cut the ends off and had forgot to take a pic. it was non factory welds of both sides of a ford converter. i started to leave it on but im glad i didnt

About 15 years ago a guy who lived near me in TN had a car given to him, and he had been trying to get it running. He said he'd been told the cat converter was stopped up, and he was going to get under it and poke a bunch of holes in it, then take it out on the road till it blew all the stuff out of it. You ever heard, or ran in to anything like that ?

Wish I had a nickel for every gutted or missing cat I've found. Especially love the exhaust pipe replacement cat, at least then don't have to waste the time cutting off an empty cat.

bear i know ive seen alot of them, the 2nd post on this thread i believe this has happened because of the weld, the first one i dont believe it was because factory welds. i dont know what causes them to blow out but i would assume from running hot. i do know the guys that bust them up do it because air going out is just as if not more important than air coming in, just like a dirty airfilter will cause problems so will a clogged cat
