1992 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE

    1992 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE

    Ok so being around the forum for a bit now. I have seen multiple comments about Grand Caravans or Grand Voyagers and Parting them Out. Today I landed a decent 1992 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE with 161,000 Miles.

    For its Age the Body is Decent
    Interior is Also Decent
    Glass is GREAT
    Tires are Shot
    The Ugly: The Rear Axle is nearly rotted all the way through.. Looking at $600 for a new rear end. Also when under the Hood, I can shake the engine in it with 1 hand- I mean rock the S.O.B. and the CV Axle on the drivers side looks to be completely destroyed. My heart skipped a few beats tonight- I think the previous owners should say a prayer or two that they were being looked after.. this thing was not far from a death trap!

    But my question for you "Part Out" Guys is this: Is their parts of value for something so old still?



    You can see rust at the bottom rocker panels, but the doors themselves are great, the back hatch and glass are great too.

    Any tips. I'm considering posting a "Parting Out Ad" for it, to see if the market has any fruit to bear.. but I wanted to get some insight from guys/gals here 1st since I know quite a few of you have gone after these and parted them out.

    Might not be a lot of demand for one that old unless it's for the front end to replace a deer hit. Most of them that age already had the transmission go bad in it.

    yea thats too old to bring much parts value, i am looking for late 90's or newer, cherry pick it and move on to the next car

    looks like the tires still hold air, your probably looking at around $100 for the set of 4 on craigslist, i have sold sets with 40%-50% tread for $200

    I took this picture at the yard today, I stripped and loaded it over the weekend, it's been stuffed with loose tin for a year or so and was running a few days ago.
    I paid $400 for it and drove it for a few years but it was pumping so much oil out onto the ground I retired it and finally got around to stripping it for donor parts to my other old one.
    I have 4 more like the one on your trailer. My main driver is a 92 also.

    You guys Rock!! Thank you very much for your input and information. I got this call out of the blue, worked the deal and then thought "Man I know some of these guys part these out" but as you guys said- later models not this old!! Most appreciative. Looks like a "gut and go"

    Well.. The van is gutted and ready to take her last trip down the road (via a trailer) tomorrow. Wanted to post one last picture of what is left of the dash.. Kind of a blankety blank.. but Oh So worth that wiring harness!

    looks good, if you can get a small sledge in the plastic below and to the left of the glovebox the heater core is there and should be brass or copper as old as the van is, its only a couple bucks, I only get them if I have time

    Sweet Cory.. Thanks for the Tip. The core is all exposed since the dash is gutted, I'll look to get that badboy out once daylight shines again and before the maiden's final voyage! I appreciate it man!

    Ok I see two plastic boxes.. same size.. Is it in one of the two? I'll just bash and crash if you don't happen to be on at the moment.

    ones the heater core, the other is for the airconditioner, sometimes its acr, but usually aluminum, also the blower motor is to the right usually about $1 apiece

    edit, yep bash and crash , we actually use a masonary hammer for it as you can pry with it also

    edit again, wear gloves prying them out as the edges are sharp, that's where I get a lot of my knicks

    Thanks for the awesome tip. About 10 minutes with a Sledgehammer and a Crowbar. They were right in front of my face and I didn't know it.. So Thank You!
    So the Core will go in at .50/lb
    Blower Motor: .20/lb

    Better than the .11 that I would have been paid if it were never torn out of the van and went with!

    that looks like the airconditoning one, the heater core is usually a little smaller(edit plus antifreeze should come out of it), you will still get clean radiator price for it, one more tip, the key in the ignition is made of brass, we throw them in a bucket.

    you done great, you will find out the ones you want to rip the dash out and the ones you don't, i'd take in these first ones to see what your getting apiece, and then save them up usually with quantity you can get a better price

    I've replaced a couple of heater cores and man it's no fun. Looking forward to ripping one out that doesn't need to be put back together.

    This one had 2 alumunum lines running to it.. and once yanked, yup.. antifreeze.. not too much, the system was in real need of re-charge, when I pulled the AC pump, there was no pressure at all, just some dribble and a tiny hiss for about 3 seconds.

    So I may have missed the heater core then. Bummer.. Would have liked to have seen what it looked like too. Honestly, I was in a bit of a hurry, had to get this thing in and be back to town before my son got off the bus, so next time, I'll just take one of these down to the firewall HA!

    The one with anti freeze is your heater core.

    For about two bucks worth of brass(I have never seen a heater core that was not brass) I leave them in unless I have time to kill, but you had enough of the dash tore out to get at it pretty easily.
    Even aluminum radiators, AC and tranny coolers are debatable as far as what is worth your time for the money you net.
    I do save the anti-freeze for use in other vehicles, at $6. or more a gallon

    he had already pulled the dash for the wire so it was very little work or extra work anyway, 90% of the heater cores are aluminum that I pull, and your right they are small, but it is so worth it when you fill a whole truck bed of radiators
