I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!
My wife is like KZ's..we hit a yard sale or something her scrap instincts kick in, or if we're out riding around on the sandbar, she's got an eye out for things along the curb while I'm busy driving, and yakking.
Hell today she left for work on her bicycle and ended up calling me 2 minutes later, cause a neighbor a street over was putting his propane grill on the curb. LOL. It was a pain lugging that sucker back home, but worth it. I coulda used the van but..it was nice out an I saved 3.85 in gas. lol.
I give her a cut of what she finds and she uses it at the thrift stores. Crazy woman, but I love her. ha!

Wow the legends of smf are commenting on my post!!!!! Thank you for all your replies. My wife is very supportive of my scraping and is the queen of thrift store brass, I agree that slowly I can ease her in to junk cars slowly. To clarify my question; When I said I scrap part time I mean I often work 60-70 hours a week at my job that is somewhat seasonal, take care of my animals, we grow a lot of our own food and in my "free" time scrap. So I am attempting to get a good system to turn and burn vehicles in a quick efficient way. If I decide to go this route I will have a compressor on the trailer and my ultimate goal would be be to not remove the cars from the trailer. Pick up, strip and scrap!
"And if your train's on time, You can get to work by nine, and start your slaving job to get your pay. If you ever get annoyed, Look at me I'm self-employed
I love to work at nothing all day" -BTO
And I was not being sarcastic, I am honored at the replies!!!
I only took 1 vehicle off the trailer I have ever done (my first).. and getting it back on was a nightmare.. Somewhere with me gutting and killing it in the garage- all four wheels were LOCKED, I mean like I put the emergency brake on and then welded the wheels to the hub, and then welded the hub to the axle. I must have cut something that told the vehicle to seize the brakes and never let go. I still have the skidmarks on my garage floor! Now- They go on the trailer as I get em.. and they only come off with a forklift or SUPER CLAW in a dusty dirty yard that will be its final resting place!!

What was Sirscrapalot saying? Something something my head. I forget.
beardo - I think it's a good plan to have a roving workshop. You just need a place to store things that you strip off of the cars. People do well selling parts taken off of cars, so not turning and burning all of the car could be beneficial.
It can more money to extent, but also requires more time and effort. Generally I only parts I have already sold or it's something I'm gona use. Have a good 302 ford and aod trany, had it for about a year now, and a 4l80e and transfer I've had for two years. Not looking too profitable is it ?

No, it doesn't at all. I was thinking more about smaller parts though, lol. More like what jghilino does...

Scrapalot - wise like a fortune cookie but not as corny.
from experience whtever you put on the trailer you will have forgotten something at one point i had a generator plasma cutter extesnion cordreel with 250' cord tank for holding gas and a pump sawzalls toolbox with everything under the sun 16k winch and skate for moving cars with no wheels snatch blocks lock out kit every tie down imaginable and a underseat safe to hold $$$ in incase i ever got robbed
i also had a 5 gallon compressor impact guns 3/8 1/2 3/4" and 1"
you know what happened 95% of the time i brought cars back anyway because of access to cats or breaking the only 19mm socket i had in the field etc
when i finally gave up i realizd i spent more $$$$ on gas and insurance for that 550 mechanics truck then i ever could have just buying a f250 and trailer
BTW good luck getting a tow truck with that much weight onboard

Sirscrapalot - Legend of smf? no. Egg roll of wisdom? Hell yea baby!
if you plan on just removing cats and batteries it wouldn't be too difficult, you just need a way to safely get under the rig once it is on the trailer and some way to cut the pipe. floor jack, jack stands, saws all. if you think your going to pull every dollar out of every car your going to have 10+ man hours invested into each car, and your going to end up with a junkyard. in my experience T&B is best when you minimize time invested. for me my breakeven point was a dollar a min. so if it took me 30 min to load it a hour to strip parts and half a hour to unload I was making about a benny. for 2 hours of work. if I load it and go to the yard and unload it. I have a hour into it and i'm making about a benny. if I can do that 5 times in a day i'm farther ahead, even if I do it once in between regular pickups i'm still ahead. for me though i'd rather take computers apart in my shop then wiggle between a car and trailer. but that's just me.
I usually just get front tires on the trailer and pull one ramp out, usually allows pretty good access to any cats most of the time.
