Has anyone every dismantled and scrapped a fire truck. I have opportunity to buy several and am just wondering if they are worth it. Seems to be quite a bit of brass. BTW these are 1980's 1990's models not the old small fire trucks.

We had a firetruck in our scrape yard and the content of aluminum, copper and brass was unbelievable. The back half of the truck was all aluminum and a tremendus amount of cast aluminum...You cant go wrong if you have purchased them where you can make a profit.
Kris Kringle - These firetrucks would be purchased from local government that has taken them out of service and I would have proof of ownership. The prices range from $1500 to $2000. We are using a 16 ft. trailer so the bodies would need to be cut anyway. We will scrap all of the metal, but my main interest is the copper and brass.
junkdude1959 - Can you give a roundabout figure of the weight of the metals and total weight of the truck in your yard? Obviously different models will have different amounts of the metals, but if the weight of the truck you had was enough to make a SIGNIFICANT profit at my cost I imagine that most trucks would be worthwhile.
I myself may be junking a fire truck conversion...came across this. So the pumps etc are worth quite a bit?
Really depends on the age and manufacture of the pump, an older pump could just be scrap value.
Who is the manufacture of your pump how many gallons per minute and how much pressure will it put out.
The majority of corporations work off a budget, equipment is depreciated over a number of years then regardless of condition is replaced. And this is how we end up with a surplus market, no one wants this sheet.
Copy that! It’s an army 6x6 that later was surplused to the Forest Service. I’m guessing pre 1999 as it’s an M939 series truck with no ABS, and with NDTs
That’s quite a story!
You enjoy a good tale Eh, here's a link to the Gustavus thread who eventually became Biscuit the two merged before going on vacation again. Back again as Proton.
