Just got a text from a guy who wants to scrap a 72 cutlass... No idea what to offer him on it. Any ideas?? I just enquired about the shape of the car.

If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...
GC Metal Recycling & Recovery
Barrie, Ontario.
I would be $250 to $300 on the fact it should scale nice as it is an older boat with a Full Frame, Real rear end and big engine
Older, so not much in the way of copper wire, decent chance the Radiator and heater core have copper
That old no Cat or will have after market
If its decent shape im thinkin parts resale. But not sure on condition yet. I was thinking maybe 300 as well
If the body is in decent shape the lowrider crowd might be interested in it....not running could fetch about $800-900... maybe more but dont take less than $800. throw it on CL as a lowrider project for $1500 and then work from there...they always low ball.
He says it runs but its a little rotten. So we all know that means its very rotten... Lol
Buy at scrap price.. if you sell it to the lowrider crowd- you are that further ahead, if not- no love loss!
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!
Got him down to 500 so far... See if i can work him down to 400. Thats my max. Wont lose sleep if i miss out on this.
Jord-
I'd look to see parts as someone also said- 72 is that year of verge where people may want parts and NOS parts are harder and harder to come by. Worst case- do they do demolition derbies up there? This old iron- shell may net you $500 bucks alone at derby time if you had a place to sit on it. I'd look to see if you can sell parts.. Curb Weight on it is about 3500lbs.
Buy it the same way you buy every other car. The junkyards still have them, and the parts aren't selling quick at all.

I was mostly interested in the motor. I know a guy who does all the aluminum welding for all the amature racers in the area, figured he might know someone who may be interested. Also know another guy real well whos helpin us restore our 29 model a and my dads 41 caddy, he knows lots of classic car guys. Thats the only reason i even went to 400.
Doesnt look like its happening though. No reply. What a shocker! NEXT
