If there's a band on the front taurus cat without a split shield, its a high grade. Theres different pgm loads in each cat. I'm not trying to buy em I'm just giving some potential leverage next ttime you sell.

Does he need 10 posts or something like that?
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!
So I need to post a few more times then I can recieve pms. Then ill send it
Ok.. That sounds awesome. Maybe head over to the Vehicle Recycling section.. You probably have a bunch of info you could offer on topics there. That way you can get your 10.. and they are "meaningful" as they say!
First I want to say I'm no cat expert. But I don't see how the one with the band could be worth more, I'm not saying it can't be I just don't see it. They run side by side on a Taurus 3.0 coming from different sides of the motor with no pre converters on either side, this would make me think the same materials were on the inside. I realize on the GM high grade dual chamber and regular GM dual chamber have a different gap tho I'm not sure which one has the narrow gap.
Most of us sell directly to our yard and like said above have different names and prices for converters across the country and to be honest are at the mercy of our yard whether good or bad. I've seen my yard buy a large bread loaf from a individual for 25 and give me 78
I've dealt with several core buyers now at this point 4 to be exact, in my experience they pay really well the first time to get in then try to get to you the second time, happened with all four of them.
I say all this to say this. We need cat buyers on the buyers threads, I've personally sold 30+ converters more times than I can count! I wouldn't need but a few $ extra per converter to ship them to a buyer on here. It would make us all more knowledgable and we would all make more money.
Lonnie I know your new but you say your a buyer already set it up, Focker I'm assuming your more similar to me and buy mostly cars but buy converters when you come across them. You two guys I would like to see buyers threads. It would be nice to see converter buyers just like the ewaste buyers, be a little late for me as I'm going small time but it could help a lot of guys and gals out

Yes sledge i just had 4 of them the other say i took up there got $58 each for them i think
You need a buyer thread then Focker, for those like me who forget who all does what. I've had several folks I know ask if I know anyone who buys them. It's not my game, but I do like to send business to others when I can.
An good post Cory.

There are a bunch of ways to buy cats. As long as everyone leaves happy its good business. The problem is its hard for people who don't see cats every day to get used to the catagories, especially when buyers switch up all the time. Even the end users (refiner buyers) try it if you don't know how to call there bluff. To corey that is a good point.
10 for the badge, from what I see. Forget if we get that option with a membership to the scrap room or not. Perhaps Mech, Mick or Parrot will confirm or deny this.
Hope to see some buyers for other goodies, we got some great ones for ewaste, time for you cat guys to get one going.

I'm assuming you have to be a member but we all know what assuming does. $47 is a small gamble for advertising. I spent $45 a week on the free paper here
Oh I agree. I just can't remember if it's a perk of being a member, as in getting a buyer thread included. Otherwise from what I see in setting section it's 10 for just a buyer's badge/thread. No membership. An yes..the money spent is well worth it. It's helped me make much more then I'd be doing if I had never found this forum. So yea..small price for me to say thank you.
Either way..someone get to buying.

I'd second or 3rd or 4th the motion of us needing a converter buyer here.
I have to admit.. My present core buyer is the best of the best around here. Honest as the day is long. Where else could I go and have a story like this:
Brought in a cat, he said "I could only give you $35 for it, but if you take it to XYZ core buyers- I know he'll pay more for it- his end buyer hasn't started buying by numbers yet." I was stunned- here is the guy I bring everything too.. telling me to take it to another core buyer. I said "Well tell you what- if he buys at the same $35 bucks, I'll come back and sell it to you.. but I appreciate the fairness and honesty" I took it to "XYZ core place" and got $78 for the same converter. I went back and tossed the dude $10 bucks for it! And at the moment- I'd be hard pressed to send my business elsewhere. But I know that I am in the extreme minority when it comes to cats and core buyers. Most everyone else gets "marked" as Cory was stating.. most of them- if they know you don't know exactly what it is.. they'll work to take advantage of you in a NY minute!

People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
I may start a buyers thread soon. I stumbled on this site bored last night and figured I'd chime in on this interesting post. I can somehow add pictures with the prices and decide which, if any are worth selling or holding onto. Atleast you can verify which converters are of higher grade then thought
Lonnie, we currently have around 14,800 members and around 300-800 guests per nite so there is quite an audience for your ad if/when you decide to post one. Just some food for thought. And no, not cake.
Lonnie-
As I said, I've got a great core buyer.. but if prices on the West Coast end up coming out better than the Midwest with the shipping involved, I can see doing some business personally. I, as everyone else on the forum, is always looking to maximize their profit.. whether from converters, e-scrap or anything else that moves through our fingers!
Yeah, a lot of times dealing with a local buyer is more lucrative, when shipping is added in. When a good dependable buyer is available.Like the ol sayin goes a bird in the hand is better than 2 in the bush. Ill gI've whatever info I have any which way, I stay pretty busy here in california, but then again I can never say no to business, if it does come knockin.
Lonnie-
Never hurts to explore options. When you are able to send PM's will you hit me up with that PDF. I thought you could after 10 posts (which you are at now) and still can't send a PM. I would be interested in comparing your price sheet to my buyers.. if we are in line- no harm no foul, if your prices and shipping work out.. we can talk. If you establish a good rapport with folks here you will gain business. I happen to live about 8 miles from arguably the core buying hub of the midwest- a little nothing town called Edinburgh Indiana.. so I can get good prices- there are a lot of great guys here that live no where near a core buyer- or have 1 guy 40 miles away and if you don't take his prices- well then you got a hunk of steel that is doing no one any good. So a reputable, honest and fair buyer is a definite need around the SMF!
