Cat Converter from an 08 Mustang...

I have an 08 Mustang. I'm going to have the Cats replaced (One has a bad rattle inside). I intend to have the Muffler shop return the used cats to me, if it's worth it. Anyone have an idea what these things are worth, and where to sell them?

    E-waste I know, Cats I don't!

    Thanks for Help!

I've never scrapped a ford that new, assuming there the same as early 2000s, the large ones around $40, if it has a pre 10-20. Depending on v-8 or v-6 you could have 2-4 converters if they are the same as the old ones. If they have went to a single converter over the years im assuming $40 but that's just a guess

Edit, I hate to say this but they might not even let you have them, first they will want the money, second and less likely it's illegal to reuse a used converter and they could possibly think you would want to use them for another project.

its a 4.0 v6 but that looks similar to the cat. $40 each isn't too bad. Never hurts to ask...even if they just say no.

Its your car.. Drive that thing in with the Cats already cut off.. Then the shop guys can't take em. Leave them as much pipe as you can though!

In Ohio I think it is state law that the shops must give back parts.

I'm actually in Florida now. You know what's crazy, in Miami I've had the hardest time finding a shop that does exhaust work!

    Quick search
This looks to be the top one
Exhaust, Custom Bending, Catalytic Converters, Caribe Muffler Shop Of Bird Rd., Miami, FL

Make sure you mention to the shop doing your cats that you want the cats back BEFORE they start on it!

My old man got screwed like that, he could not have his old cats back. Don't understand that. Policy my arss.

I did a google search and came up with a few shops, but I was looking in north Miami. So I called caribe, and he told me something nobody else did....cats are under federal warranty requirements of 8yr 80k miles!!! He said call the dealership. I called the dealer and indeed my car is still in warranty specs! So I'm going tomorrow to have it looked at and probably fixed on Wednesday! FREE!

    Thanks a ton!!!

The 8-year/80K federal emissions system warranty saved me some $$ once, too, on my 2000 VW Jetta. Those cars were notorious for bad cats, and they're quite expensive as it comes with the whole downpipe.

The small newer Ford cats with the center O2 like the one pictured are actually a High-Grade Domestic, and worth $70-80 each.
