just picked up another junk van!

was just about to sit down and eat some dinner when the phone rang! so put food back into the fridge and went hooked up to my trailer.
ended up getting a 99 ford windstar for $300. lady said when you take the jumper cables off the battery engine quits? so thinking maybe the alt.
looks like if i junk it get about $390 if i fix it and sell it should get around $2,500. thats if thats all thats wrong with it. been told this before lol.

The cat is worth what you paid for the car . I don't scrap cars yet but I have been told these vans have the loaf cat . Good haul , def worth fixing to resell in my opinion . But your she of the game either way.

Maybe third option, flip it for a $1000 and let someone else fix it?

thinking of fixing it first. right now trying to find a way to reset the security system. its in security mode and preventing the vehicle from starting.
good thing i know of a locksmith in the family. give that a try first. then if nothing to the ford dealership.

If you do get her running.. check these 2 things out:
    Head Gasket
    Transmission

Windstars are notorious for these 2 fails. So if you do get her running be sure you check those out before dropping any other $ into it!

ya will do. engine bay looks pretty clean and looks like someone been taking care of it. don't mind spending little money on it. but i don't want to spend a lot on it either.
if thats the case it will just go to the scrap yard then.

I get these from time to time.300 is a good price for it the converters are worth about 100-120 for both.
I never try to fix and sell them to much hassle and to much time messing with it lol.
    But good luck

don't know what i did? all i did was roll the van off the trailer and try clearing the code with the ignition switch and it took off and started. checked head gasket and transmission and they seem to be working good. love easy fixes like that lol. did not need an alt afterall like the lady said it would need to run. looks like all it was is it was in the security mode.

well not sure what happened? had everything fixed least i thought! got off the phone for a buyer that was interested in the van. soon as i hung up the phone i went and test drove the the van down the back country road. had it up to 50 mph and was running good! then buyer took it with test drive with me and everything started failing the a/c quit working, radio, could not roll down the windows, engine started dieing, transmission stopped shifting not right. was working good when i tested it than buyer showed up and bam!
well what can you say its a ford!! i know how to fix it!!! scrap yard time grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

focker was right i should've listened lol.
got all the cats cut off, battery removed, most the wiring cut out,alt pulled out,and most of the aluminum engine pieces removed!
right now i'm stuffing it full with other car doors, trunks, fenders and anything else small i can fit in there with.
i'm guessing i added about an extra 900# to it. tomorrow is going to be payday
also have 4 cats and 50 gallon garbage can full of aluminum thats going as well.

"Welp" you bought at scrap price.. gave it a go to try and sell.. and you'll kill it on cores and weight.. As you said- you'll make your $$ for certain.. Believe me I've been down that road thinking what you were thinking.. and hey-- sometimes it actually does work out to sell it for more than you'd scrap it for.. so don't stop pursuing' that dream!! Sometimes- it really does work out!

thanks sledge. na i'm not giving up anytime soon its how i make my money!
i don't know the word fail lol. first time don't go as planned i try a different way till i succeed. i'll get it sooner or later.
i'm guessing i'll make around $700 give or take a few dollars. between the van and some of the scrap metal i had in my reserve pile and some of the cat i hoard till around fall and winter time before i normally cash in. this van sucked up most my money i had tied into it so it was time to dip into my reserve scrap piles.
