    Tips to pull a Tranny out of a GMC Jimmy- Stuck on Trailer?

    All-
    Ok ladies and gents. I'm currently gutting a 1997 GMC Jimmy. Sadly, it met its maker shortly after a new Transmission had been put in it by a professional shop here locally.. it has approximately 20,000 miles on it. I offered it on CL in the part-out ad saying:
    "Jimmy is on the trailer.. and cannot be removed off the trailer. Tranny is available for $200 bucks- You Pull"

    I have 2 people who are willing to take a shot at it and want it.. and now comes the "Umm how do we pull it with it being on the trailer?" "Uhhh Do you have a cherry picker?"
    I have stated in the ad that "You bring tools.. You Pull.. I can assist.. but you pull the part"

    Truck is sitting on its rotors and drums on a set of steel wheels.. Alum rims that were on it have long-ago been cored. So the next time this will come off my trailer- is when a big green claw scoops it up and flicks it into a pile of shred.



    Soooooo. I've got $200 bucks riding on this.. wondered if anyone may have any tips, ideas or suggestions about how to pull this Tranny with the vehicle being on my car hauler?

    If it is NOT possible.. I can understand and will console myself with that fact!

    What I would do (and actually just did on a car) is jack up the front as high as possible and secure it real well on jacks stands/blocks, then remove any bracing that might be in the way underneath, disconnect the flex plate-torque converter bolts (should be 3) and any wires that you see going to the tranny, then get a board on top of a hydraulic jack to support the transmission and then you can remove the bell housing bolts that secure the engine to the transmission, it should be disconnected now and you can lower it right down. Now the car was a little different and I had to drop the whole engine/transmission assembly with the subframe. But being a Blazer it is obviously rear wheel drive so it has a longitudinally mounted engine and it really "shouldn't" be that hard to just drop the transmission. It will be a little tougher to deal with if it is 4x4 since then you have to pull the transfer case but you can get a decent core price for that as well. Once you have it separated from the vehicle a couple guys on either end of it shouldn't have to much trouble putting in the bed of a truck.     Here is what I have done in the past
    But can't tell from the photo if there is rims on it
    I put 2 stacks of 2 junk rims each behind the trailer and put the ramps from the trailer sitting on top of the 2 rims
    If the unit has wheels , even just steel with no rubber, it should roll OK >> Enough to go back the length of the ramp
    Front tires on trailer, Back tires on ramp on top of 2 junk rims
    area between the 2 ramps acts like a lift >> Granted only about a foot off the ground >> But you also have the foot between the ramp and the Blazer
    So you should have at least 2 feet between ground and trans >> Plenty of room to work
    Unless you have already stuffed it full of junk, I find it easier to remove front seats and sawzall makes quick work of the floor
    Since I have already removed the dash > I also cut the middle fire wall
    makes all those bolts you have to remove MUCH easier to get to

    Of course for that much work I would get an extra $50.00
    OR
    They can figure it out themselves for $200.00
    Which of course you get paid BEFORE work begins
    In case they get it 1/2 way out and change their minds

    Better Pic as the Sun has gone down a bit. Thanks Gents For ALL your tips. I actually found the SAME website.. Hoping I can email it to these dudes and let them know what they are in for! They'll earn that tranny.. but $200 is better than $1000!!!

    Do it he same way I would do it sitting on the ground, jack up the front as high as I need it to e and go to town on it, it's going to the junk yard next so who cares if anything else is messed up in the process of removing te trans. That should be an easy pull, hour or two tops.

    Use a tractor with a front end loader bucket and hook a chain to the motor/trans package, pull the wires, hoses and jerk it out.

    If they dont know what there doing to pull it I wouldn't allow them just saying. Go buy a chilton or haynes book from your local autoparts store for $15 or google info.

    Well no one came through.. no worries.. no one got hurt either! Was A-Ok with letting it go.. $200 bucks wasn't worth someone dying on my trailer trying to "figure it out" As they say.... "NEXT!"

    The first thing I thought was far be it for me to judge a man based on his sexual proclivities. The second thing I though was you should have thought about that before you put her in there. Then I read the actual post and realized I was thinking about something totally different. Sorry dude, can't help you with your problem. Hope you figured it out.
