I have a 8x20 2 axle trailer with the bed over the tires. It has a tailgate that is strong enough to use for a ramp when let down. This trailer isn't the ideal car hauler, but it can handle a F250 with a steel bed and fuel tank when I need to drop it off at another field.
I had to pick my trailer for its overall usefulness to me. You have to think about your situation and pick the properties of a trailer that fit.
Mine were:
1. wide enough for 2 pallets of seed to fit side by side
2. low rails to hold stuff from sliding off, but not too high so I can't drag heavy stuff over the side
3. rails also needed for tiedown
4. heavy duty enough to haul my fuel truck or a small tractor.
5. heavy wood bed so things don't slide around so easy (I have been known to pop a few screws through things to hold them in place)
6. tool box (front mounted)
7.
winch (still working on that one, have to use the one on the front of my truck for now)
