    car dolly questions

I can't have a full car trailer and need something to haul cars home (for parts/repair) so found this oldie for $180....

Here's the question though.... I have to leave the rear suspension on (axle, subframe, & tires) in order to trailer a car to the junkyard....

Is it possible to make it so I can take the entire front end/ cradle off and still use the dolly to get to the yard (7 miles).... I'm just thinking keeping my subframes/bearings if they are still good.... and one gave any ideas? (Flat bed is off limits, don't have $$$ or truck to pull it)

In my experience, you secure the front of the car onto the car dolly by putting straps over each of the front tires/rims. If you don't have that, I am not sure how you will safely secure the car to the tow dolly. I guess you could figure how to secure it somehow but it would be difficult to go around bends in the road and not the safest.

    car dolly questions

I know about securing it via the tires... just trying to figure out a round out of it, if I have no suspension how to attach

Make sure you get a dolly with a pivot plate/point. it has the wheel buckets on it. And I'm sure something can be fabricated to work with your situation. I could think of a few ideas. I can draw a plan up I think would work if wanted. PM me.

The strapped front tires of the tow vehicle also serve a purpose. When turning, they track with the tow vehicle and allow the car to turn. And of course you need to tow with the steering wheel unlocked.

Trying to tow without a front end is an all around bad idea.

That is very good advice, but I have towed countless times without the pivot plate. Being the dolly is 180$ I doubt it has any.

Something might be fabricated but I am pretty sure it would be an illegal eyesore. Either, or.

    Still don't recommend it.

Personally i would strap and chain the crap out of it throw the 4-ways and strobe light on and take carefully planned out back roads at 10-25mph. But thats just me. If your unskilled at strapping stuff and afraid/not patient enough to drive at a running pace then i would suggest against it.

At times car hauling becomes a difficult task and cannot be completed without someone's help. A better alternative to this would be hiring professionals such as Connecticut Auto Transporter which provides car transportation services. The firm is an expert in their work. Hope this suggestion helps in any matter it can.

Why are commenting on old threads? And trying to plug a transportation company on a $180 tow dolly topic?
