Where to look for scrap aluminum rims?

Hello all, I am looking for scrap aluminum rims to melt down and cast. I'm not sure where I should go to source these parts as I know next to nothing about cars and what sort of shops service/sell these parts. I am looking for rims that are beat up, rusted or otherwise unfit for their intended use. Thank you in advance.

It's just a thought, but you might try visiting the automotive repair shops that do a lot of tires. Sometimes the aluminum alloy rims develop stress cracks. Othertimes ... someone will hit a pothole and bend a rim all up.

Eventually ... used rims end up at the scrap metal recycling yard somewhere. That might be another source.

All around though ... it's hard to say with rims. Like so many manufactured metal things .... the rims are probably made of an aluminum alloy of some kind. An alloy is a special blend of different metals designed for one specific purpose.

Rims might behave in an unpredictable and perhaps even dangerous way when you tried to melt them down.

It might be better to melt down aluminum soda & beer cans instead.

You probably won’t find too many rusted aluminum rims.
