'01 Malibu is a breadloaf. The other 3 are aftermarkets.
I know for a fact the 95 is original my father owned the truck from new
It's an aftermarket. Somewhere sometime when he had some work done on the truck, the cat was replaced. You can see where the pipe was also replaced, perhaps it was done then.
I can tell a muffler from a cat. and that's the extent my knowledge, but I am wondering how do you recognize an aftermarket? What tells do you look for? Is it the Flange?
I know I responded to a post last year and put some links about cat prices and identification. I also think I started a thread with the same links.
Thanks Fumes, I did look for the post, but didn't find it. Could it be in the Room?
I am understanding that Catalytic converters best identification lies in the shape and design of the converter, but are there any aftermarkets that look like the original converters? This is probably preschool, but I really don't know much about them.
Scrapdollar you're not alone most people dont know jack about catalytic converters even the ones who think they do lol i hope i didn't step on anyones toes cause i sure wasn't trying to but i really dont agree with the comment about the other catalytic conveters being aftermarkets i know a guy who will pay me at least 50 bucks for the ones you claim are aftermarkets im really starting to love catalytic converters now.

Alvord iron and salvage
3rd generation scrapper and dam proud of it
There are few diesels that are worth money...the 3 cats off the late model Dodge Ram Diesels will bring you a cool $500-$600.
Score or snore?
Or is this even a catalytic converter I'm looking at. (Yes, go ahead & revoke my mancard now! LOL)
I do not know make/model/year/aftermarket/OEM. I got this at curbco today, and although someone was home, they wouldn't open the door & talk to the scary man in the dirty coveralls.
From reading this thread, I realize I may need to cut it open to see if I have anything.... hints where exactly to cut? Can't right now, gotta get to M-I-L's birthday party.

I could be wrong but that looks like a resonator. Cut that piece off the end (the resonator looking part) look through it.
Do you see honeycomb? can you see light through it? The bottom pic, cut at the top of that.
I have 600 pounds of ceramic honeycomb and 100 pounds of foil ive extracted from the casings.
