My local yard takes Cats at $10 a piece no matter what kind or size just a flat rate. I will do my homework and find out if I can get a better price next time.

I would try your local exhaust shop, they might buy them for more then your yard. In my case, my yard will give me more then the exhaust shop. But for you, it sounds like it will be the other way around if there only giving you 10 bucks!

    Just about anywhere.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

The only cats it would be worth selling at that price are aftermarkets. One of the local scrap yards prices them out as small, medium, and large, for $4, $6, and $10. They always get some each month although not a lot, and I'm always amazed they actually get any. There will be converter buyers in your area. If you deal with any of the auto wreckers/scrap car haulers in your area, ask them who buys theirs. Often the cat buyer will also buy the scrap alum rims, batteries, radiators etc. Around here anyways, wrecking yards and scrap car haulers consider the converter value of the car when they buy the car, just like the steel value. At insurance auctions, cars with good converters will sell for at least $50 more than if they had no cat. So those buying them need to get the most possible value out, so they usually do a lot of searching to find a buyer. If you can find out who their buyer is, you'll definitely get more than $10.

imyourgirl...I also buy cats. The only way your cat would be worth $10 is if it was an aftermarket or a pre...and thats on the low end for a pre.

Bubba...the amount of honeycomb really has nothing to do with the value unless it is a partial. It's all based on what it came off of. Keep in mind there are also cats that have beads instead of honeycomb.

What are some of the best cars to get cats off of? So far the best for me have been, Grand Prixs, Grand Ams, Bonneviles, Corsicas, and Cavaliers. Any other good ones?

Taurus cat without the O2 sensor is about $125, and with the O2 sensor is about $100. Pretty decent cats, and pretty easy to cut out with a sawzall. That's on the older models that only had 1 cat.

For ppl asking about prices on other cats, posting pics is the best way to ensure you're going to get a fairly accurate price. Lots of those vehicles listed have more than 1 converter available, depending on engine and whatnot. Some are fairly straightforward. Like the Dynasty, is a chrysler straight, $92 around here right now. The 95 Intrepid is usually a cat that has 2 pipes running into it, and a single pipe running out. That's rated as a "half of a Jeep", or 1/2 of $85, or $42.50. The 2 pre-cats on those are the ones right at the ex manifolds, and they are what's called foil or wire material. If you look inside of them, they look like rolled up cardboard. Those are worth about $8 each or so.
