Car Computers - What grade board?

To the e-waste guys, what are these classified as? Is there any gold on them or are the pins all brass? Also, I have a few that are encased in a thick gel and I was wondering if I should sell them like that or if there is a good way to remove that stuff because in some cases it keeps the board stuck to the heavy aluminum case.

I would need a photo to be 100% sure but a good rule of thumb...if it looks gold...it could be gold. I would need to see it so I could grade it.

Posting a picture of the board will aid greatly in the identification and proper valuing. It will give the experienced E-waste members to properly answer your question.

I don't tear them down. They go to the auto core buyer.....anywhere from $1-$75 each

george they are usualy either under the dash by the fuse panel or on the firewall. Look for the large harness and where it goes. The wires always lead to the ecu.

Dodge trucks--- They are on the firewall passenger side. There is 3 5/16 bolts that hold it in.

I take it the firewall, is the area between you and the engine?

Not to sound truly stupid, but I know only enough about cars to get me through. The rest my father in law deals with it.

I have not found a good buyer anywhere near Colorado. I load up about once a year & head to Illinois.

Yes, but some have the green boards stuck to their individual aluminum cases with a gel that im unsure how to remove.

Wow. I dont know any local auto core buyers, and ive already removed the cases that I could and scrapped the screws..

^^^^That's why I have to sit on cores. Gotta save up enough to make the trip worthwhile.

Also, yes, they'll have to be complete to be refurbishable cores. I average about $4 a piece on them...without any disassembly labor...most are in the $1-7 range, with a few higher dollar ones out there.

I was finding these under the seats of cars. At the time I was just recycling the looms & getting the cast Ali cases.
Didn't know about the Gold at the time.

Looking back I think there probably was a good amount of gold in there, all the vibrations & heat etc.
Mid 80's Jap cars had heaps of wire in them, amazing amounts of copper wire, 'thicker than your wrist' looms across the dash.
