Cutting up old cars

Got a question for yall. In your opinion what is the fastest and cheapest method to cut up a car? I think torches to slow, so looking for opinions. I got a farm gig to clean up and sharing 35% wealth to the owner. Theres several cars abandoned on property ranging from 20'/s up to 80'/s. No titles, so cutting is the only option. How small do I have to make them so the yard doesnt bust my rump??

id look into parting out the older stuff might be worth it also u can get titles for the older stuff

Is there no yard nearby that takes car without titles? All yards here take old cars with a bill of sale or no questions asked as long as it wasnt made in the 2000's

whatever you do dont cut up and scrap the old stuff, there is another forum dedicated to cars 1964 and older called the HAMB im sure you could get good prices from those guys.

I read this thread title and was about to freak out on someone. Please don't cut the old cars up. They don't make them anymore! I agree with Brandon, look at the HAMB (http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/) I understand time is money and all that and space limits, etc. but if they are mostly complete and not crumpled up or flipped over or something, old rusty cars make awesome "rat rods" and they are really hot right now.




Even if you have parts of old cars laying around, I can GUARANTEE with a little effort you can sell them. For way more than scrap value too. 1970's and 80's stuff hasn't caught on yet so you may have no choice but to cut it up but do some research first. If this stuff has been on a farm since the 1930s or whereabouts, you could be sitting on a gold mine! It's all about patina for rat rods and I'd imagine those would have lots of patina. Any way you could post some pictures?

they dont even have to be a whole car these guys will build a car and only start with the cowel/ firewall.

Ok will post pics. But the vintage cars are the last item on the chopping block. There is no access them. They must have been put there in a hollow down a hill. Then the trees grew in and all access is cut off. You literally need to cut trees and build a road to pull them out in one piece.But they are mainly intact, motors, trans, etc. I was looking at the grill on a old 40,50'/s dodge and it looked practically new like it came off the showroom floor.

Im mainly gonna start on the 70'/s80'/s stuff. Guess I'/m going to use a sawzall and genny for the sheet metal. And the torch for the frame. Should be a nice kick start for Monday with 500 cash in my pocket. Will post pics of the other ancient cars when I get a chance. Only shame is it appears someone cut the roof of one of them long ago. Maybe someone can identify them....

ozzy214 where are you located? i know some people that are always hunting vintage tin, get some pics and i can probably work out a deal for you.

and for my personal collection i need lots of parts for 49-54 chevy cars, 1st generation mopar a-bodies, and 50's and 60' chevrolet trucks

Some of them 70s and 80s cars are worth money to derby drivers. Depending on how clean they are. For example, if there was a mid 70s chevy wagon out there that is clean rust wise. It could possible fetch as much as 1000 bucks or more realistically 700-800. No idea what scrap prices are in your area, so maybe this isn't as good as sounds too me. But still worth possibly looking into. If this interests you, let me know. I'd be willing to help as much as I can track down buyers.

Great find! The ones you posted are pretty far gone and will take some work to get out as you said - once they sink in the dirt, you're looking at several hours per car if you've got a winch, etc.

Save all the stainless you can and mark what part of the car it came from for resale. The belt molding on that 53-54 Chevy (?) in the last pic might be worth something, also the grilles, etc. The older one looks to be 35-36 chevrolet? also but its really hard to say without looking closer. If its a tudor, that would have some resale potential if its not all caved in on itself. The blue-gray car is 48-ish Dodge or Plymouth. Not much of value on those even if they're complete running cars (but they drive nice!).

Radiators in these are full of copper, same for the heater cores.

way better than scrap, at least 4 times better, plus if they get it out you dont have to mess with it

Don't cut those up! it's not a 69 camaro but it's the next best thing! can bring big money if it's in any kind of shape
