it should depend directly on how far you are located to a steel mill. there are 15 scrapyards within 5 min drive of the local steel mill and the yards pay $190 - $230 a tone but you can sell the rubber for $ 2.00 a tire to a rubber recyclers and don't forget to cut off that catalytic converter. removing the rad i am sure is to make sure you drained the fluid but its worth more then 230 a ton per lb.

I don't remember where Gus was from but he would load his big truck and stack (I think) 4 cars and make a long trip just to get the bigger money up there.

Currently in Alberta (Calgary) we're getting $160 a ton for prepped cars, wheels can be left on though. About 2 months ago it was $250 out in Vancouver, not sure what it is now. Out in Hamilton during the same period, it was $250 a ton for cars, but un-prepped. That's a pretty nice bonus. Overall I'd say we're all getting screwed pretty equally for the most part, unless you're lucky enough to be really close to a mill or three.

In Kingston, where they have an auto shredder they're paying $400 for a full size u pull vehicle unprepared. Was up to $425. Not sure what that works out to per ton though.
