Well, here's my summer side job (camper)

So years ago my dad bought a camper from relatives for us to use back in the woods for when we had bonfires, play cards, etc. Whelp, we never used it and it had sat for 40 years before he bought it. No vehicle recycler will take it, got big fat NO's and one ''You'll have to pay me to come get it.'' Guess because they are so much work. I have no choice but to tear it down myself. I started today on all the outside stuff. This isn't going to be fun lol and no clue how long its going to actually take me. I wanted to take pictures of my progress as I go along. Thats one of my brothers in the background but he isn't lifting a hand to get dirty to help me, he's just supervising so far. Got my drill and sawzall in my hands and rest of tools int he back of my truck. Not enough electric cords to run back there for power tools. Right now its stuck in the ground, we cant push or pull it out its too wet and if you'll notice of course that tree is blocking the generator *sighs*. Might have to just move that tree to get at it lol!

    So this is START:

are you scrapping it ? is the siding screwed on ? Might get everything out of it, unscrew the siding, unwire it, while you're cutting that tree cut the wall studs all around (after tying a cable or something to pull the top over with) then just give it a good yank with your truck, should fall right over. Pick up the mess, and the aluminum roofing, you've got you a much lighter load to pull out of there. Most of all, be careful doing it

You look like one tough scrapper in that picture. lol

I probably wouldn't need to mention this but you might want to start by gutting the inside while it's still structurally sound. Have fun and don't be afraid to use a crowbar and sledge hammer.
If it wasn't for the $ in $crap, it would just be.....

I wouldnt bother removing all the screws from the siding, I would get one of those circle cut drill bits and cut over the screw. Leave the screw in the wood frame with the little bit of alum. Much faster tear down.

Destructo, if you were nearby I'd let you come get it out to have!

hobo, yeah, tons of the screws are so rusted they aren't coming out, I'm going to have to see if there is a bit in the garage or go get one of not.

Rusty, gutting it is next. I took the AC off today thats whats sitting in the foreground of the one picture and I got one captains chair out and part of the couch/bed. That is a 460 motor, I have a call out to a guy to see if he wants the motor and tranny he rebuilds cars all the time. I figure I'll just cut around the engine and let it fall and use the boom on dads tractor to get it up to the house.

I'll keep you all updated as I go along and thanks for all the tips!

Yep! My first and probably LAST vehicle LOL! I'm hoping once we get some weight out it will move but I think the brakes are frozen.

the generator is probably gas powered, and will fire over with a fresh battery. Get it running and you'd have all the power for power tools ever!!!

Yea you might be right about the brakes being frozen. I bought a trackter trailer trackter once that had been sitting for a long time and brakes were frozen but we hooked a class "A" wrecker up to it and gave it a quick pull and they let lose. I don't know if you can do that being that it is sitting in the mud.

If you can get power for the job. Instead of unscrewing the screw you can just grind the heads off then pry the sheets off as well. Even less loss of aluminum.

I hadn't thought of that. I was just thinking of either gathering enough electric cords to run from the garage to the camper or getting an inverter for my truck.

The only things scaring me about all this is dropping the LP and gas tank.

syphon the gas out, and save it for the interior paneling bon fire this fall. and the propane.....after all this time is there any left? you can always turn the stove on and walk away. but i'm betting if it had a propane backup fridge it's empty. pop a new battery in and check the gauges if they work.

by the way test the fridge. if it works, the propane back up fridges sell well!

I did an RV over the weekend. You are in for a treat and a half.

On the RV, and camper I did last summer, both had staples for the siding. Windows were screwed in.

    Edit:

Hope you don't mind if I add some pics newattitude.

This is what it looked like.

    Part way through demolition.

    Using this.

Stripped and ready to cut up.
