That ugly piece of wood glued together last evening taking shape, this is the pattern for the oil centrifuge.

Oh the lathe running backwards is not an illusion, the tool bit is installed upside down the cut I'm taking is better than 1/4 inch.

Patience my arse, this is something I have not yet acquired.

I'm impatient to try out this centrifuge and I do not have a crucible large enough for the melt. I decided to use up that large chunk of nylon to machine another bowel from plastic.

I'll not post step by step pictures as we all know what this bowel is going to look like in the end.

Groovy! Dude I've thought this, but never said anything, on drilling rigs we used centrifuges to separate heavier fluids. Have you ever looked at one of theirs, or considered using them ? No doubt there's some in surplus, discards, or secondhand sales floating around(unless they've all gone to iran ; )

Are they all regular ic's or are they the ones with the gold and silver windows?

Bear centrifuges are expensive, like $200,000.00 for a large one found in the oil field. The small commercially made one shown above is $8820.00

Brasscatcher just regular IC's and surface mount capacitors, cpu's, ram plus a few other goodies sheared from motherboards.

Yes miked I had considered the blue bowel as an option along with building a shaker table, the centrifuge won hands down on recoverable metals.

    Surface mounts, palladium and silver.

I don't cherry pick, everything gets sheared, incinerated, ball milled then concentrated. This is the reason behind building a centrifuge I'm no good at panning and needed a much faster way to get those concentrates into the lab.

Thanks Barren, what I find most despicable is that a whole truck load of mother boards is reduced to a few pints of concentrates

I've learned so much by building this small centrifuge that I'm already planning a much larger build.

Yea I know what you mean. It all goes up in smoke with a lot of useless ash. I'm anxious to see what your final out come is on this.

I'm about half done with the run when the motor went up in smoke, anyhow I brought the small plastic tobacco tub in to scale, half full it weighs 2.70 lbs. of concentrates

That sounds like it was working then before the blow up.

Good thing I had a spare, just about finished relocating the replacemnt motor which this time is mounted from the side keeping it nice and dry. Instead of being direct coupled to the motor it's now belt driven.

Came if for a coffee break, then back out to the shop to finish cutting in the slots for the motor tightener then weld a bracket for the controller.
