Vintage IMB 5160

Made a great find in the last load of PC's. A working IBM 5160. Plus lot's of PCBS

One question. The 4 plates by blue, do not stick to magnet, but not sure what they are made of. Is it white copper or aluminum? Also, what is the easiest way to destory to heavy duty transformer?

What are you going to do with the old IBM? I found one recently though it won't power on so was thinking of Ebay for parts.

Ahh, i remember when my side cutters were clean! 100,000+ cuts ago. lol.

Looks like fun, got a good setup. What i've found that helps, quickly fab up out of a couple pieces of wood, some screws and nails, a small "wall" to hang yer tools on. After about the 900th time of knocking my dang pliers/screwdriver/what have ya, off the table, i got angry. I throw my sockets on the nails too, and label them. Just a quick and easy thing too make life a bit easier.

And those heatsinks are aluminum.

LOL Hoss and thanks. I'm always looking for a screwdriver or something. I've listed the IBM 5160 on Craigslist for 200. It still works, so I figured:" What the heck" Why not give it a try. The IBM 5160 is the 2nd pc IMB made. They go for vintage, so I would list in in Ebay. May be some takers. Been back at it since 5 this morning, and now getting some online time. Looking for the best pcb buyers prices.

What are you doing with the transformer? You can get the copper out, if that's what you mean.

amen! Reco, that's where the traffic goes. Another thought is the numbers on those parts might not be found in ANY search, that could leave very few options, but does at least say that part isn't available anywhere, at any price. If you still wanted to market it at better than scrap, and have good reason to believe someone Will eventually come looking, the only other option would be to list that part w/ number on your own site, and wait till someone else searches, and hope they're looking to buy

Thanks Mike and Bear. I'm a web developer by trade, but have been so busy with my Bulldogs, and electronics that I haven't had the chance to be on the computer, much. I got my guy's cataloging all parts that are good, and working on my e-store late, each night. Close to having website up. You guy's have been a great help, and I learn everyday. How's things going Mike? Still got more, when your ready. This time you'll have to stop by my place and see what I got going. Could always use a little help.
