Yeah, the wood is a hassle, but I do like old electronics. Tearing apart old systems is like digging in the cereal box for the prize (Disregard that analogy if you are younger than 45).

If it's real wood it shouldn't be such a hassle, some(if not most) with real wood make nice enough cabinets to be re-purposed in almost countless ways
Are those gold plated legs on those transistors? Mike
They are gold plated. These are the largest I've found yet. Transistors about 1/4 inch diameter and legs over an inch long. The "wood" is usually particle board.
