They mostly make pipe for the oil/gas drilling industry and with the price of oil dropping companies slowed down purchases.
If you look in the Recycling Today, click on the Electronic tab and down near the bottom is a 2010 list of the top 20 Electronic recyclers. It is an older list but may still provide some info for you larger recyclers.Quote:

Last I checked, 1/4" plate was about a buck a pound. The local steel yard (a division of a large western Canada steel supplier) closed up shop a few months ago.

Va star in Youngstown makes nothing but pipe for the oil/gas industry. Brand new mill in 2012 was running at full capacity two months ago.
I was under the impression the majority of domestic mills had their demand from gas/oil/shale industries.
