So my helper was loading some pieces in the truck. He flipped a piece near the rear and busted out my back window. I have replaced it with plexi-glass for now. My question is do any of you have a grate or anything to protect your rear window from this happening, and if u do what did u use and where did the materials come from?
Just built a headache rack out of scrap box frame. Welded it up and it's great. Use small reebar to protect the actual window. Havent had a problem. It all bolts right onto my bed.
where did u get that from and what was the cost of it?

If you don't have basic building skills a simple pc of plywood would help. Simply put it in front of the window before you load up. Just cut it to fit your needs. I carry a pc of plywood about 4x3; just in case I come across something unexpectedly. It's there to protect my window. It is simply latest back down when I'm empty. It's perfect if you don't want to bolt anything down permanently.
Ouch! Been there done that recently with my S10 (while unloading nonetheless, not loading or transporting go figure), thankfully I have glass coverage otherwise I would have been out almost $200. I wedge some old seat cushions from some aluminum-framed yard chairs someone gave to me on CL between the load and my back window currently. I don't plan on doing it that way forever, I am looking to build some wooden sides for the truck, including having a plank to protect the back window.Quote:

Careful of "peep" holes, Bear. Sometimes, people misunderstand meanings and stick things where they don't belong. You wouldn't want to get jabbed in the eye, looking through a peep hole.

thanks for the tips i actually got lucky today and found a decent metal grate today scrapping that i can screw in place over my window. I really don't wanna keep buyin windows. My helper actually broke the plexi-glass today that i put in yesterday. he was lucky i had some duct tape laying around and was able to fix it again..
p.s. Ok i didnt just have duct tape layin around i acutaly have like 10 rolls layin around. love that fixes everything and if it dosent probaly wasent worth fixin

eh...While I'd be annoyed...I'd quickly realize...stuff happens. People make mistakes. Second time in a day or two tho an said helper might be paying for part of the new window or at lest the beer to make me feel better. Heh. Beer could cost'm more then part of the window...I can drink. ;)

well fellow scrappers, a window guard is definitely in order for me. i was busting up some cast aluminum on my truck tail gate this evening and a piece flew off and smacked my rear glass of my truck, which of course shattered immediately. luckily for me, we rent a room to a glass installation guy. he is gonna install a back glass for me and not charge me anything for it AND he also found a glass for the truck for $20.00. Thank You Lord!!!
