never heard of them but might be worth sending a few to see.
Dang it would of loved to known about this about a month ago when I threw about 50 office type printer cartridges in with shred.. Crap.
I would be interested as well. My pile is starting to grow...
i also a bunch of ink carts to
Honestly I can't really seem to find a better/easier deal than staples just make sure to bring in the 10 a month, get a gf or friend to take some in also. They sell paper towels, cleaning products, and office supplies that are handy if you have a scrap business and you can earn $240 per year per person.....
Yeah i used that company once and never got paid. I like this company recycle ink toner cartridge cell phone recycling . No Staples with in 150 miles :(
50 cents for my toner cartridge, i can make more scrapping it out my self, 20 cents of shred and 80 cents for the small single sided board with solid plated areas on it
I wonder if they would take them if they are full or at least have something in them?
Office Depot gives $2.00 for each in rewards points. 10 a month. My wife works there I send some in now and then when I need boxes or tape.
what about the little gold chips?
I'm taking them off, they just click off easy and the're like mini cell phone chips, not much to 'em but their cute.
and the ones with tape and little gold blobs, i peel them off too.
is this what everyone else does?
Gold mylar is extremely valuable, ive sold it for as much as $50 an ounce for trimmed gold mylar.
Came across this thread in Google, some answers:Yes, I've sent dozens of shipments to them. It works as advertised: They send you labels, you send them a box full of stuff, they cut you a check. The check references the last four digits of the tracking number. If cartridges are damaged, you'll have no idea which ones. So while you may be expecting a check for $75, it might come back as $68. Happens to me on most shipments; usually only off by a couple bucks. I take the cartridges out of the retail boxes; it cuts down on weight and volume and helps keep the price list high. But by doing this I might be damaging them in transit. I have no idea. Only downside is that it usually takes the full quoted 21 business days for payment to get to me. And that their price list is kinda low.
I do NOT recommend eCycle (ecycle group .com) or anyone else that has you ship items to 380 Bayfront Parkway in Erie, PA. They have a much quicker payment and a much more robust reporting system. You can log in and see everything they've received and credited you for. But they've screwed me over many times by not counting things I've sent in and claiming I sent in worthless cartridges that I did not. While their customer service department has been helpful, they eventually got to the point where they put more trust in the guys punching things incorrectly in to the computer than they did in me and stopped crediting me.
They're part of Clover Tech, the largest cartridge recycler in the country. They are the ones that buy cartridges from Office Depot, Office Max, Staples, Quill, and others. They get hundreds of shipments a day and probably screw up half of them.
Honestly I don't think you looked at their price list. They'll often pay more than $2.00 per cartridge; which would you rather have--$2 cash or $2 credit at Staples? I only give Staples cartridges that aren't on anyone's price list. Even if I can get ten cents cash Staples won't get it.
Also, Staples changed their recycling program months after you posted. They now require you to spend at least $30 on ink or toner within the previous 180 days before they'll issue any rewards. So assuming you have a steady supply, it now costs $60 to get $240.
I believe you need to have $25 in your account before they'll issue a check. Either you didn't meet that or some of your stuff was damaged and they don't pay for damaged cartridges. Regardless, you can always call them and ask about it.
It's nearly impossible to drain a cartridge of all toner or ink. I imagine they can reuse some of the residual toner.
From Office Depot Web Site...
Office Depot store. As a member, you'll get $2 back in Recycling Rewards for each cartridge recycled, up to 10 cartridges per month. You can recycle additional cartridges, but Recycling Rewards will only be issued on the monthly limit. Recycling Rewards will be granted when you make qualifying Office DepotŪ purchases and will not exceed the amount of your total qualifying Office Depot purchases made within a Reward Period. (Qualifying purchases exclude taxes; delivery fees; postage stamps; prepaid gift, debit, phone or service cards; and purchases made with Office Depot Rewards and Merchandise Cards/Certificates.) We reserve the right to decline acceptance of visibly damaged cartridges for recycling. Please allow up to 6 weeks for your Recycling Rewards to post to your account after qualifying purchases are made. Recycling Rewards will be issued with your Rewards Certificate when you earn $10 or more in Rewards. Subject to Program Terms and Conditions.
So you have to purchase something and then get your points to spend 6 weeks later?
I have to disagree. Granted I've only sent one shipment to them, and none to anyone else, so weigh that in my opinion, but I was quite happy with my transaction with ecyclegroup. Everything I sent was accounted for, and while a couple were marked off as having been damaged, I cannot dispute that they were not damaged. Sometimes I get a bit rowdy removing them when they don't slide over to where I can get at 'em!!
that is correct hobo. very lame it is, i have stopped taking them in now. Now they will be going to my scrap yard and make a fraction of a cent per cartridge :(
make sure you peel the gold mylar / gold board off first before taking them to the yard
ink cartridges haye gold mylar and toner cartridges have a small board that has gold on it called a page counter
Thanks man, I'm glad you said something, I'm still waiting for that market to develop where I can sell gold mylar
I go through 2 sets of cartridges a year in my printer so buying those from staples to qualify is no problem that's $60 right there......Buying pack and ship supplies, office supplies etc I will easily qualify at office depot.
Ecycle sending me out lables, will post what happens. Only sending 25 cartriges out...
Look up MooseScrapper on youtube he has a video of almost getting a free skil angle grinder from staples by trading cartridges there.
They now say some were scratched!

I sent them a email to see whats what! But I would hold off sending any large shipment in to them!
Well THERE'S the problem! Five $4 cartridges damaged. You know, come to think of it, several of the HP 6578's that I sent them got rejected as damaged: 5 out of 8 I wonder if there's a pattern to them rejecting as damaged the higher-paying cartridges, and if that's nefarious or if they just check those a lot more carefully.
Still, even with a few of mine being rejected, I was pleased with the outcome. I'll just be more careful removing them & packing them from now on... I have several printer powercords at my workstation now so I can plug in printers & try to get the cartriges to slide over under their own power rather than prying at them.
Well, good luck anyway... and it looks like you'll pretty much have to send them another shipment just to get what you've already sent them paid. :(
Sounds like those guys are not on my list to send stuff to based on the above. And I get quite a bit with my deal with the school recycling club.
They are going to cut me a check for the 19+ dollars...
I'm sure they scam countless people who think they are sending in $50+ worth of cartridges only to find out they are worth less than $25, so they can't get a check, and then they just forget about the site which leaves ecycle with free cartridges.
So was it worth it HOBO? shipping costs and all? I have at least 100 ink cartridges to sell and would rather get dollars than cents.
What is there website?
soo, if a cartridge has a scratch it's no longer useable? I think if you'll look close enough you'll find most are scratched before they get to the printer the first time, and if what they require is a totally perfect cartridge, i'll stop wasting my time retrieving them
They pay the shipping and they only buy what's on their list: Price Lists | eCycle Group
I'd be curious to find others who have sent them big lots to see if a disproportionate number of their high-value cartridges got rejected.
I can see both sides of such a pattern: perhaps they're nefariously underpaying people, or perhaps they more closely/carefully inspect the high-value cartridges as part of their quality control.
I'll probably use them again even with those unanswered questions. It's not like there are a whole lot of other buyers beating down my door, and with the roadblocks the bigbox office stores have thrown up in front of recycling for profit with them, it's too much of a PITA to jump through all their frickin hoops. Better to just send off a box on their dime & take what I get from them, IMHO.
Funny part is all the HP 22's ($4.00 ones) came from my own printer. I can see them getting scratched as you are forcibly removing them from a scrap printer. I am happy to be getting a check... Funy that the one $5.00 cartrige that I ripped out of a printer was taken no problems, It had been sittting outside in the AZ heat for over a year! LOL Someone that has a bunch should send in some and see what happens. Now I still want to find a way to get rid of all the other ink jets that are not on anyones buy list! Sent in 2 lbs of stuff getting $19 should have been $40! But heck that is still $9.50 a pound for what they took...
If you have some on no one's list I guess you could pull the gold mylars before you pitch them.
Got the check for $19.55 today
I shipped off another big-ol box to them last Monday. Their website shows it got 'batched' yesterday & will be counted out in its turn. I guess they count them out in the order they arrive... will keep yall posted.
I'm really curious to see the ratio of rejects in the high-value cartridges. If it's disproportionate (again) I might have to make a phone call...
Sending out a box to ecycle I calculated had $64 worth of cartridges in it(about 50 total). We will see how it works out, the process was easy thus far. The leftovers will get taken to staples.
Well, just got the detail on my shipment... Just like I expected, 30 bucks lighter than it should have been: I sent 99 bucks worth of empties, but 30 bucks worth were "damaged", and most of those were the high value ones.
So... do I call & rant & rave at someone who probably doesn't really care, or do I just accept the fact that they send me a shipping box, they pay the shipping, and they at least give me ~some~ money for my empties, unlike the big-box office supply stores who seem to add more hoops every time I try & recycle with them?
