Here are a few pictures of some of my scrap loads. I have lots more pictures, but I need to get them all organized and moved to this computer. I deal mostly in batteries, and due to my very rural location, I sometimes hit it pretty good. The aluminum pipe ended up weighing about 4500 pounds total. What do you have to pay for each battery in your part of the U.S.?
I would suggest trying to cover cover the batteries up with a tarp, it's illegal to haul 10 or more batteries without proper paperwork, etc. as far I as I know.
I've not been able to find anything that says how much you can haul. The only thing that I have ever found, says that because the EPA wants batteries to be recycled, the rules are a lot more relaxed. I have seen it refered to as " loose scrap", after you put them on a pallet and shrink wrap them, they become hazardous waste, and then it is a different game. Any information that anyone can provide that is more than hearsay, would be very much appreciated.
I usually pay $5 for car batteries. Sometimes I don't pay at all.
It looks like you have a great business going there. Are a full time scrapper? How did you download your pictures. I have not been able to post pictures since photobucket changed their business plan.

I used to pay $5 per batt as well, I could easily turn them for about $13.. easiest money I ever made.. when given the chance!
Patriot, I am a sometimes scrapper. I always do the battery thing, no matter what else I am doing. I am always on the lookout for scrap, but due to the distance to scrapyards, sometimes steel won't even pay for fuel. I do whatever it takes to pay the bills. As far as posting pictures goes, I posted them directly from my computer, I just add the attachments when I am posting.
I was going to add that to my reply also.
If you don't wanna deal with online hosting, you can always post attachments straight from your computer.

What are those? I can usually figure out an item.......wheels for what? Irrigation?

It is nice to see another rural scrapper on the forum. I do a lot of the same type of work myself and stockpile when the prices are low because I have the room. To load combines, tractors, and other machinery I have a winch mounted to a receiver hitch with a remote. Between my loader or skid steer and the winch I can load four autos or any combination of machinery in one to two hours on my trailer.
The reason I used a receiver hitch is to remove it when not in use and the ability to mount it on the front or back of any of my trucks, skid steer, and loader. This is a one man crew so versatility is the key. Keep providing pictures.
I don't have a loader or skidsteer, but have a lot of friends with the equipment that I can use when I need to. I have the trailer that is in some of the pictures, and Ole' Whitey, the 95 F350 with 425000 miles on him. I also have a 96 Dodge 4X4 with a cummins. I have an old tractor with a loader that I haven't fixed yet, that will be good for loading. I could stockpile a tremendous amount of material right now, if I choose to. Almost 200 miles to a scrapyard makes it a little tough to make money on steel right now.Quote:

Thanks for posting!! Hard to believe there's more than a year's gap in this thread. I had a battery load this year after my bro gave up the fantasy of making his own lead balls for his muzzle loader out of a bunch of batteries. It was a fun load!!
Oh...... I love them batteries ! Wish I could score more but I won't pay for them so I get em where I can. When I get 20 or so them I add them to my load of other scrap to make sure I'm making it worth the trip. The last load was a bust with ferrous so the copper and batteries helped
to make it a decent payout.
It is hard to believe it's been that long. I haven't been hauling much, because I was running an excavator all summer. It's kinda nice to get back at it.
I traded this swather for an 18' car trailer and a plasma cutter.

You probably got the better deal, especially if you can work the plasma cutter like a ninja!!
I saw an add for corrugated metal for free, must take all. I have been looking for some to put on the roof of my porch, so I said I would take it. As is always the case where I live, it was over 100 miles to go get it, but I know the people, and my sister has a ranch near there, so I made the trip. As it turns out, this was a building that had been taken down in the early 70s, and purchased by this ranch, and never reassembled. There is another load like this one that I still need to go get.
A little research tells me that this may be worth a little bit of money, I have already had a couple people say that they will buy some.
Also, I was able to make connections to purchase a 1972 Chevy K20 pickup for a pretty cheap price.

The body panels are in very good condition for a 70's truck !

You may live in a pretty empty landscape for people but one thing that aridity does is stuff doesn't rust away like further east with more precip, more humidity, and high use of salt on snow & ice in the winter. Good luck on selling that old pick-up. Looks pretty hot for being 47 years old!
I've started doing a little scrapping again lately, still stockpiling most things. Made a deal to clean up a huge ranch yesterday, I'll take pictures and post later.

Looking through the pictures on this thread, I should probably post an update on the vehicles in it.
The black 72 Chevy 4X4, and the white 67 Chevy with the utility bed, both went to the same guy. He's planning on doing a full restoration on both of them, like he's done on some other old Chevys.
The white 85 Chevy van went to a guy who's building a 70s style surfer van.
