First post here and I havent seen anything posted about Scrap Carbide. We are a recycling facility in SC dealing only in scrap carbide with most of our business coming from scrap being shipped into us through the mail. I dont know if im allowed to post our website or price per pound but just thought I would say hi from south carolina.

i'm sure you'll learn the basics in no time here, like how to go about advertising ect.
but in the mean time, how's about telling us where to find carbide, is it in anything specific that one could find scrapping?
sounds like it would come out of specialised stuff that only a few could ever find but maybe not.
rockaway recycling is the only place ive seen ever post a price for carbide. i think tom had it at like $6/lb or something like that for scrap carbide
inserts, endmills, drills, dies, round tools, boring bars, and sludge. Its mostly found in machine shops and in manufacturing plants....its basically the second hardest substance on earth next to a diamond and it is heavier than it looks ( kinda like gold). Machine shops are the first place I would look..... 2 coffee cans usually way about 100 pounds and our current price is 11.00 a pound.....and 10.00 a pound with braze on it. Also tons of recycling facilities have lots of it and buy it for about 3 to 4 dollars a pound and have no idea how much its worth.
Hello and welcome to the forum. We've had a couple people ask about it in the past but it does not come up as ofter as maybe it should. That is another area that we could use a little more info to know what were looking for. I'm sure a lot of it has hit the "steel pile" during scrapping.Quote:

i would get in touch with the utility companies, ive seen them throw away hundreds of pounds of the stuff at power plants or toss it in with shred

once it goes through, you will most likely make a new post in the buyers section. This one could have been moved but its gotten off topic from you as a buyer into more arbitrary information, so i'd suggest starting a new thread once your payment goes through

hmmm...something else for me to look for. I'm not far and for that price i'll gladly drive up to SC with a pickup truck full!

the spark test really doesnt work that good.....plus if you are buying scrap from somebody they might not have a grinder plus your going to ruin the wheel on that persons or shops grinder.
CARBIDE DOES NOT RUST OR PIT
carbide is dense like gold so it is heavier than it looks it is brittle so if you drop it, it will most likely shatter
only carbide or a diamond will scratch carbide, it is the second hardest material on earth next to a diamond and scratching it by hand is very difficult. It will not have a peel when scratched
the number 1 test is with a magnet and the one I use the most, it is LIGHTLY magnetic! at our shop I have a steel drill bit to compare the pull from the magnet.
Heavy and slightly magnetized are the key factors
If you are unsure of it being carbide you can also send me pictures and I can usually tell right away.

I havent heard anything about my membership going through but I am going to make a video on everything about carbide because they make **** near everything out of it and if I wrote out a list of what to look for it would take forever. nebrs13 I think my inbox was full or I was only allowed so many messages but its clear now.

Im pretty sure i threw drill bits/ tools from a mill+cnc machine in with cast before.
